A motorcyclist who killed a 12-year-boy in a road accident is hoping to make legal history by claiming compensation for the injuries he suffered in the crash, it has emerged.

If approved by the court, the settlement would provide varying levels of compensation for people who were injured and who received medical treatment, or were hospitalized, as a result of the derailment and subsequent release of chlorine.

Railroad operator Norfolk Southern Corp. on Tuesday said it reached a proposed settlement with plaintiffs in a South Carolina court case that would compensate people who were injured after a train derailment early last year.
